Read on to find out why that cycle class you’ve heard so much about, could quite possibly be the best thing you have ever done!

Happy Hormones
You know the feeling you get when you’ve got a bonus at work or even a great buy on a large purchase?  It’s that warm and fuzzy feeling! That is your body releasing feel-good endorphins into your bloodstream. And guess what? Exercise does that too!  You may not be buying this just yet, but we would highly bet if you jump on a Spin bike or took a class that you would feel much better than you did going in! This is because exercise produces endorphins which interact with receptors in your brain and trigger positive feelings in your body. You’ll leave the class feeling physically tired but mentally you’ll be on a high, and that is the feeling you’ll become addicted to.  This is why staying active and fit can help so many people battle depression and other negative mental and physical health conditions including stress.

Cycling Is A Low-Impact Exercise
Cycling is perfect if you are recently recovering from an injury or surgery or just need to take things a little more gently. Of course, you can still get a great workout, but as the bike is stationary there is no risk that you will fall off or collide with another.  It also means you can focus on working towards your fitness goals. If you are unsure whether a cycling class would be something you will love, give us a call at 586-267-5139, and we can answer any questions you may be wondering about. Be sure to arrive early in your first class so that instructor can set you up on the bike safely.

Increase Your Cardiovascular Fitness
Cardiovascular fitness is the ability of the heart, blood cells, and lungs to provide oxygenated blood to our muscles allowing them to produce energy so we can move. Basically, the more cardiovascular fitness you have the easier it will be for you to move and stay active. It will also lessen your chances of getting Coronary Heart Disease and other cardiovascular health problems.

Lean Muscle Definition For Your Legs And Core
One of the best advantages of a spin class is the increase in muscle definition in your legs and core.   We’re sure you already know how important the strength of your core is.  It basically holds your body upright.

As you start to build more lean muscle definition you are likely to notice your body shape will change in all the right places. Plus the more muscle mass you have the more calories your body burns day-to-day, even when resting.

Cycling Relieves Stress
There’s no arguing about it because it has been scientifically proven that exercise can help to reduce stress. Focusing on your workout allows you to clear your head and temporarily forget whatever stressful day you may be dealing with in your personal life or at work.  Exercising makes you feel good about yourself and increases your confidence, all of which help to reduce stress within our daily lives.

You, Will, Reduce The Risk Of Injury
Unused muscles and joints become weak, tired, and stiff.  They are like a car that sits and doesn’t run.  When you go to start it up, it may be slow to go.   The more fit your body is, the easier it is to complete daily tasks and the fewer injuries you will subject to.

You, Will, Be Part Of A Group
Joining a cycling class is a great way to meet new people. Working out with others not only subconsciously makes you work harder but it creates a sense of friendship.

Challenge Yourself To New Limits
You will set the pace of your workout, push yourself to new limits, and see the benefits of cycling.  If you’re not feeling it one day, then you can take it a bit easier.  Or if you’ve had a bad day, you can take your aggression out in the class!

Indoor Cycling 101 – ChampCycle Macomb

indoor cycling classes at ChampCycle Macomb

So, you’ve decided to give indoor cycling a spin?  Then get ready to drip with sweat, get your heart pumping, and then be addicted to coming back for more!

Indoor cycling classes are guaranteed to help you shed fat, improve your heart health, and boost your muscle endurance. Your legs in particular will get a serious workout.   By the end of class, you’ll have a steady stream of feel-good brain chemicals called endorphins.

Many gyms offer indoor cycling classes. Or you can join one of the popular cycling boutiques, like ChampCycle, which combines indoor cycling with a weighted workout for your arms, and sometimes some additional mind-body exercises to its bike routine.

For best results, you should plan to do 3-5 classes a week if this is your sole exercise routine.  If you have a few different workout routines, then 1-2 cycling classes a week would be suggested. The classes are usually approximately 45-60 minutes.

At ChampCycle, one of our certified instructors will lead the class through different types of cycling, like uphill climbs, bursts of speed, and short recovery periods with easy pedaling. Sometimes you’ll get off the saddle and pedal in a standing position.

There’s a bike for each person in the class. They face the same direction, towards the instructor in the front of the class.

The instructor chooses a variety of music to go along with each phase of the class. They may play an upbeat song for 5 minutes as you pedal as fast as you can. Then may pick a more mellow tune while you catch your breath and pedal slowly. You may bike for 5 minutes with a lot of resistance, to mimic riding up a major hill, with a song to match the mood.

Some instructors use imagery on the screen to keep you going. You’ll imagine yourself pedaling fast through a desert straightaway, or steadily up a green mountain on a Caribbean island. It’s a great way to keep boredom at bay.

By the end of the workout, you may feel like you’ve been through a real adventure. And you should be very proud of what you accomplished.

ChampCycle’s Indoor Cycling Studio Keeps Your Intensity Level Very High

Indoor cycling is intense. Your heart rate will soar and stay elevated for 45-60 minutes. There will be brief moments of slower pedaling, but most of the class will be steady work.

What Areas of Your Body Does Indoor Cycling Target?

Your legs will get a non-stop workout and your quads, hamstrings, glutes and calves will feel the burn.  Your glutes will be engaged with all the pedaling.

This cycling workout does not work your arms or core although some instructors implement some hand weights to increase the upper body workout.  Your heart rate will stay elevated throughout this super-charged cardio workout so you will definitely be getting an aerobics in.  Also, all of the peddling while you’re spinning those wheels will boost your muscle strength and endurance.

Another bonus is that there is no pounding on your joints while cycling making this workout low impact for your knees, hips and ankles.

This workout is great for beginners as you are on your own and not competing with anyone.  You can cycle at your own pace.  There may be various classes offered that have different levels of intensity so you can choose when signing up.

Indoor cycling is a great way to get in your cardio each week. It is a low-impact workout, but it is definitely no ride in the park. Many classes are very high intensity, so talk to your instructor and doctor first if you are out of shape, are pregnant, or have any medical problems. They can help tailor the program to your needs.
